Lufenuron is the active ingredient in the veterinary flea control medication Program (Novartis) and one of the active ingredients in the veterinary flea control, heartworm prevention, and anthelmintic medicine (in combination with milbemycin oxime) Program plus and Sentinel Flavor Tabs. Lufenuron is also sold as a crop protection product by Syngenta for use against Lepidoptera, eriophid mites, and Western flower thrips. It acts as an insect development inhibitor, breaking the life cycle by inhibiting egg development through interference with chitin synthesis, polymerization, and deposition.
